Description
The Carbine Rifle is the workhorse of GTA VI's arsenal - the modular AR-platform rifle spotted more than any other weapon across trailer footage, heist set pieces, and police responses. If the Assault Rifle is Leonida's raw street muscle, the Carbine is its professional standard: accurate, controllable, and endlessly customizable. VCPD tactical units, private security, and serious criminal crews all reach for it when a fight stretches past pistol range. For Jason and Lucia, unlocking the Carbine after an early major score marks the shift from scrambling with sidearms to running real operations across Vice City.
Design
Built on an AR-15 / HK416-inspired platform, the Carbine features a flat-top receiver, Picatinny rails for optics and grips, and a collapsible stock that adjusts for vehicle and standing use. The in-game model shows clean manufacturing lines, a mid-length handguard, and Leonida-specific finishes from flat dark earth tactical to blacked-out operator and bright Vice City custom paints. Compared to the wooden AK-pattern Assault Rifle, the Carbine reads modern, modular, and law-enforcement adjacent - which is exactly why it dominates trailer screenshots.
Performance
Lower per-round damage than the Assault Rifle, but superior accuracy, lower recoil, and better sustained fire control make the Carbine the better all-rounder for heists, police fights, and long engagements. Effective at mid-to-long range when tap-fired or bursted, and still lethal on full-auto in close quarters with a foregrip. Extended magazines keep it viable through multi-wave wanted-level responses without constant reloads.
Customization
Ammu-Nation supports a full attachment suite: red-dot and magnified optics, vertical or angled foregrips, adjustable stocks, suppressors, flashlights, and extended 60-round magazines. Cosmetic options include tactical camos, chrome and neon Vice finishes, and faction liveries unlocked through missions. This modularity is what later feeds into the Carbine Rifle Mk II workshop upgrade path.
Locations
Expected after an early major score or mid-early Ammu-Nation unlock across Vice City. Commonly carried by VCPD SWAT and tactical units at higher wanted levels, found in security armories during heist missions, and stocked by black-market dealers once the story opens mid-game weapon access. Frequently spotted in official trailer footage of bank and street shootouts.
