Description
The Double-Barreled Shotgun is Leonida's rural soul in firearm form - a break-action 12-gauge that belongs as much on a Grassrivers porch as it does in a Vice City back-alley ambush. In GTA VI, it leans hard into the Southern atmosphere of the open world: swamp cabins, hunting camps, and dusty hardware stores all feel incomplete without one hanging above the door. With only two shells between you and a reload, every trigger pull has to count - but those two blasts hit harder than almost anything else at conversational distance. When Jason or Lucia need to open a fight with maximum shock and minimum subtlety, this is the gun that announces the arrival.
Design
Modeled after classic coach-gun and side-by-side break-action shotguns, the Double-Barreled features twin barrels, a hinge-open breech, and traditional wooden furniture that contrasts sharply with Vice City's polymer-and-rail tactical look. The in-game model includes detailed engraving options on the receiver, a polished or worn blued-steel finish, and a walnut stock that catches Leonida sunlight. Sawed-off and full-length barrel configurations may appear, with the shorter variant favored for vehicle and interior work.
Performance
Damage per shell sits among the highest of any shotgun - a single blast can drop unarmored targets instantly and stagger heavily armored ones at point-blank range. The trade-off is brutal: only two shots before a break-open reload that leaves you exposed. Effective range is short, with pellet spread widening quickly beyond close quarters. Best used as an ambush opener or room-clearing panic button, then swapped for a secondary while you reload.
Customization
Ammu-Nation and rural outfitters offer wood-finish upgrades, engraved receiver options, and cosmetic variants ranging from weathered farmhouse steel to ornate gold-inlaid 'plantation' editions. Structural mods are limited compared to pump or combat shotguns - no extended tubes, no optics rails - keeping the weapon true to its break-action roots. Barrel-length swaps and sling mounts round out the short customization list.
Locations
Expected at rural Ammu-Nation locations and hunting outfitters across Grassrivers and northern Leonida by mid-story. Also found in farmhouses, swamp camps, and as world pickups during rural story or stranger missions. Higher-end engraved variants may appear in black-market dealers or as mission rewards tied to Southern criminal factions.
Trivia
- The Double-Barreled Shotgun is one of the few weapons that visually reinforces GTA VI's Southern setting rather than pure urban crime fantasy.
- Break-action reload animations show both spent shells ejecting and two fresh ones thumb-loaded - a detail Rockstar has emphasized in trailer close-ups.
- In GTA lore, coach guns like this have long been associated with rural NPCs and old-school stickup crews.
- The engraved receiver option can push the price into five figures, making ornate variants status pieces as much as weapons.
- Firing both barrels in quick succession produces a unique dual-blast audio cue that nearby NPCs react to with heightened panic.
