Description
The Flashbang is a tactical stun grenade that temporarily blinds and deafens anyone caught in its blast radius, making it an essential tool for GTA VI's heist and room-clearing missions. In Vice City's tightly packed interiors - nightclubs, bank vaults, cartel safe houses - the Flashbang lets players breach without immediately resorting to lethal force. It represents the more calculated, tactical approach to crime that GTA VI's heist system encourages.
Design
A cylindrical canister with a distinctive perforated body designed to vent the magnesium flash charge, topped with a safety spoon and pin mechanism similar to a standard grenade. The metallic silver finish and 'VCPD TACTICAL' stenciling suggest these are sourced from law enforcement surplus - fitting for Leonida's blurred line between cops and criminals.
Performance
Detonation produces an overwhelming flash of light and a concussive bang that stuns all targets within the blast radius for several seconds, including the player if caught too close. Stunned enemies drop their guard and stop firing, creating a window for takedowns or repositioning. The effect duration varies by distance from the blast - point-blank stuns last significantly longer than peripheral exposure.
Customization
Flashbangs have no customization options, but their tactical value increases dramatically when combined with team-based heist approaches. Stacking flashbangs with smoke grenades creates near-total sensory denial for enemies in enclosed spaces.
Locations
Available from Ammu-Nation's tactical inventory after mid-story progression, and sometimes found in VCPD evidence lockers or tactical response vehicle trunks during missions.
Trivia
- Looking directly at a flashbang detonation produces a longer and more intense screen-white effect than looking away.
- Flashbangs are the only throwable that affects enemies through thin walls due to the sound concussion.
- Using a flashbang before entering a room in heist missions can grant a 'Tactical Entry' bonus.
- The VCPD uses flashbangs against the player during high-wanted-level indoor standoffs.
- Detonating a flashbang near a group of civilians triggers a unique mass-panic animation sequence.
