Description

The Molotov cocktail is Leonida's weapon of the people - a glass bottle filled with gasoline and stuffed with a burning rag that has fueled riots, gang wars, and revolutions since long before Vice City was built. In GTA VI it serves as an early-access area-denial tool that turns any street corner or doorway into a wall of flames. Cheap, devastating, and impossible to regulate, the Molotov embodies the raw chaos of Leonida's criminal underground.

Design

A simple glass liquor bottle filled with amber gasoline, topped with a fuel-soaked cloth wick that burns with a flickering orange flame. The in-hand model shows the liquid sloshing realistically as the player moves, and the ignition animation features a satisfying lighter flick before the throw. Different bottle shapes may appear randomly, adding visual variety.

Performance

On impact the bottle shatters and spreads burning fuel across a wide patch, dealing continuous fire damage to anyone standing in or passing through the flames. The fire persists for several seconds, making it excellent for blocking doorways and chokepoints. Direct hits on vehicles will ignite them, eventually causing explosion. Wind and rain in Leonida's dynamic weather system may affect flame spread and duration.

Customization

Molotovs cannot be customized, but their ingredients are common enough that crafting may be possible using gasoline and bottles found in the open world. Their low cost and wide availability make them a staple throwable from the earliest hours of the game.

Locations

Purchasable cheaply from Ammu-Nation or found scattered in gang hideouts, abandoned buildings, and protest sites throughout Vice City and the surrounding Leonida countryside.

Trivia

  • Throwing a Molotov at a gas station pump triggers a massive secondary explosion.
  • The Molotov's flame spread is affected by the surface material - asphalt burns differently than grass or wood.
  • Vice City's humidity occasionally produces visible steam when Molotov flames meet wet pavement after rain.
  • NPCs hit by Molotov fire will run in panic, potentially spreading flames to other flammable objects.
  • The bottle design randomly cycles through several Leonida liquor brands including 'Pißwasser' and 'Logger Beer.'
