Description
The Pump Action Shotgun is the blue-collar workhorse of GTA VI's arsenal - a no-nonsense 12-gauge that has been clearing rooms, stopping cars, and ruining someone's plans since the first trailer dropped. Inspired by the Mossberg 590, this pump-action beast is the weapon you grab when subtlety has left the building and you need everything in front of you to stop moving. It's been spotted extensively in robbery scenes throughout the trailers, cementing its role as the signature heist weapon of GTA VI's campaign. From gas station stickups in rural Leonida to full-scale bank jobs in Downtown Vice City, the Pump Action Shotgun is the weapon that tells the room you mean business.
Design
The Pump Action features a heavy-duty synthetic stock, an extended magazine tube, and a matte black finish that gives it a distinctly tactical, law-enforcement appearance. The in-game model showcases detailed pump-action cycling with the forestock sliding back and forth during each shot, ejecting a spent shell casing with every rack. Stock upgrade options include a pistol grip for close-quarters maneuverability and a traditional full stock for reduced recoil. The flashlight attachment mounts under the barrel and casts a visible cone of light in dark interiors.
Performance
At close range, the Pump Action Shotgun is absolutely devastating - a single blast of buckshot can drop unarmored targets instantly and stagger armored ones. The spread pattern widens rapidly beyond close quarters, making it ineffective at medium range but brutally efficient in hallways, doorways, and vehicles. The pump-action mechanism creates a noticeable delay between shots, requiring the player to time their shots carefully rather than spamming the trigger. Against vehicles, the shotgun can shred tires and shatter windshields, making it useful for stopping pursuits.
Customization
Ammu-Nation offers several upgrades for the Pump Action including an extended tube magazine that increases capacity, a tactical flashlight for dark interiors, and stock swaps between pistol grip, folding, and full configurations. Barrel choke options may affect spread pattern, tightening it for slightly better range or widening it for maximum close-range coverage. Various tactical finishes are available, from standard matte black to desert tan and woodland patterns.
Locations
The Pump Action Shotgun is available at Ammu-Nation from the early-to-mid story, and it appears frequently in robbery mission loadouts. It can also be picked up from law enforcement vehicles and downed VCPD officers during high-wanted-level encounters.
Trivia
- The Pump Action Shotgun is the most frequently spotted weapon in GTA VI's trailer footage, appearing in at least four distinct robbery scenes.
- The Mossberg 590, its real-world inspiration, is the only pump shotgun to pass the US military's Mil-Spec 3443 torture test.
- Racking the pump shotgun in-game produces a unique intimidation reaction from nearby NPCs, causing some to flee or surrender.
- The weapon's spread pattern is dynamically calculated in GTA VI, with individual pellets tracked for damage rather than a single damage cone.
- In co-op scenarios, the Pump Action's stagger effect on enemies creates tactical openings for partner follow-up attacks.
