Description
The Standard Pistol is where every criminal career in Leonida begins - a no-frills, utterly reliable 9mm semi-automatic that Ammu-Nation practically gives away to first-time buyers. Based on the Taurus PT92 and its Beretta 92 lineage, the Standard Pistol is the Honda Civic of Vice City firearms: unglamorous, everywhere, and surprisingly capable in the right hands. It's the weapon you carry through your first gas station robbery, your first police chase, and your first oh-no-what-have-I-done moment in the campaign's opening hours. By mid-game you'll have moved on to flashier hardware, but the Standard Pistol earns a permanent place in your memory as the gun that started it all.
Design
The Standard Pistol closely mirrors the Taurus PT92's design language - an open-top slide, alloy frame, and frame-mounted safety that distinguishes it from the Girardi ES9's Beretta-style controls. The in-game model is clean and utilitarian, with a matte parkerized finish and simple black polymer grips. There's nothing fancy about it, which is exactly the point - this is a tool, not a trophy, and its visual simplicity reflects its role as the everyman's sidearm.
Performance
The Standard Pistol delivers exactly what you'd expect from a starter weapon: adequate damage, decent accuracy, and a fire rate that sits comfortably in the middle of the handgun spectrum. It won't wow you with stopping power or impress with pinpoint accuracy, but it handles predictably and reliably across all early-game scenarios. Recoil is mild and easy to manage, making it forgiving for players still learning GTA VI's shooting mechanics.
Customization
Despite its budget price tag, the Standard Pistol supports a reasonable array of attachments including an extended 16-round magazine, a threaded barrel for suppressor compatibility, and basic tint options. The attachment rail allows for a small flashlight, rounding out its capabilities for the opening hours. Customization won't transform it into a top-tier weapon, but it extends its usefulness into the early-mid game.
Locations
The Standard Pistol is available at every Ammu-Nation location in Leonida from the earliest point in the story, and it may also be issued during tutorial or opening missions. It's the most common handgun carried by low-level NPCs and can frequently be picked up from the ground after street-level encounters.
